I Broke Into My Own House

Sunday.

The family’s plan was set to visit a new nursery.

We were excited to buy pots and indoor plants.

I was the last one to lock the house.

An absurd act triggered the event.

I happened to put the keys inside house and locked the door.

In Australia, locksmith charges million dollar after business hours.

And billion during weekend!

My go-to locksmith was ready to earn extra cash.

All I had text was “yes.”

But I didn’t.

There was only one possibility.

Enter the house from rear.

But that was locked too.

I started exploring without any clue.

I looked at office awning window.

An idea for exploitation strike into my mind.

Can I break in to my own house?

My son approved the adventurous idea that put more pressure on me to perform.

My wife was skeptical.

What if cost of my damage exceeds locksmith’s fee?

The hack will cost nothing.

I assured.

First challenge was to open the window.

It was locked with window winder.

Creativity is not the outcome of planned moves.

It’s the opposite.

I held the window edge from bottom and started pulling and pushing.

Magically, the window winder started moving anti-clock wise.

It was the moment of early anticipation of successful robbery.

It worked.

The window opened.

But I had remove two screws.

In opposite direction.

I accepted the second challenge.

It was tricky to work in tiny space.

But I removed.

The finale was to remove the fly screen.

It was locked from inside.

I banged with my little hands.

The fly screen fell inside the house.

The window was opened.

I slide my son from the wide open space.

He appeared out from the main door with house keys.

It was the proudest moment.

I gained three perspectives about life, situation and cybersecurity.

When life locks all the possibilities, it’s an opportunity to unlock new one beyond thinkable.

An ordinary man becomes super hero for family when he deals with extra ordinary situation.

Perfect security solution does not exist. There is always a room for exploitation.

It’s strange to learn positive and negative side of not putting the keys in safe place.
