The Speed of Security

Security is not about speed.

It’s about steady pace.

Most organizations intensify their security program after security breach.

The security budget pops out of nowhere to address the urgency.

The resources are hired in no time.

The project manager pushes delivery team to turn red into green.

Things go back to normal after resolving the cause. Until the next breach reminds everyone that security was never finished.

The process repeats until next incident happens.

The car does not leave the driveway when there is a lack of awareness.

The car crawls at 20 km/h without strategic vision.

And the car suddenly races to 90 km/h in the case of breach and slow down again.

If security only accelerates after a breach, governance has already failed.

The right security program with right governance, policy and standards is about sustainable speed.

Not too fast.

Not too slow.

Sometimes speeding up security is exactly what governance requires. exist. Critical vulnerabilities, incident response, and emergency patching demand urgency.

The problem is not speed. It’s about maintaining the pace after a crisis.

Remember, security is more of a marathon than a sprint.

Maintaining consistency is not limited to cybersecurity. It applies to our day-to-day life as well.

We over commit to our goals when we feel motivated and almost stop acting on it when we feel down.

But what we need is consistent small action every single day to maintain the momentum.

Is your security program driven by governance or by the last incident?
