Books I’ve Read

This page is dedicated to all the books I have ever read, with my ultra-minimal perspective and notes. Please click on the title to read my thoughts/ articles on each book.

My love affair with books is eternal.

A Passage To India – E. M.Forster

It’s a rich and dense book.

I was lucky to find a special Reader’s Digest hard bond edition for only $10 from Echuca Read Heeler Bookshop.

I no longer wants to take notes. I want to deep dive and write articles as book either form a new or change my perspectives.

I write a series of articles for reading A Passage To India in the 21st Century.

Start with A Cynical Racist – Colonialism distorts human emotion — and prejudice brews quietly.

A Man Called Ove – Fredrik Backman

Date Read: 7-May-2025

Recommendation: 5/5

I discovered this book because I had self-doubt about my content creation.

My wife told me about the movie A Man Called Otto. I decided to read a book instead of watching a movie.

I am pumped up and emotional after reading. Even a tiny contribution does matter to society.

That Thou Art (તત્વમસિ) – Dhruv Bhatt

Date Read: 10-Feb-2025

Recommendation: 5/5

Tatvamasi is a spiritual journey and awakening experience for an American-Indian atheist who works in a tribal area in Gujarat. The people, place, events and Narmada River turn him inwards. Beautifully written and an answer to what connects Indians within India?

The Reluctant Fundamentalist – Mohsin Hamid

Date Read: 26-Oct-2024

Recommendation: 4/5

Changez, a young Pakistani boy, is a product of an American university. He works for an American company and is in love with an American girl.

Why does he feel good when he sees the news on TV about the 9/11 Attacks while he is in the Philippines on a work trip?

The Room On The Roof – Ruskin Bond

Date Read: 8-Oct-2024

Recommendation: 3/5

Ruskin wrote this book when he was a teenager. It’s a light read about and for teenagers, first kisses, love, rain, friendship, rebellious behaviour, and loss.

The story reminded me of Malgudi’s Swami and Friends. However, the Malgudi characters are more memorable than Ruskin Bond’s.

The Company of Women  – Khushwant Singh

Date Read: 8-Oct-2024

Recommendation: 5/5

I read this book in my 20s purely to feed my lusty thoughts. I read it a second time in my 40s, and it hit me with a different philosophy than erotica.

I enjoyed the innocence of the protagonist. If you don’t agree with the inner sexual desire of Mohan Kumar after reading this book, either you are gay, a liar or impotent.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas – John Boyne

Date Read: 8-Oct-2024

Recommendation: 4/5

This book was my addition to The Holocaust Universe from a child’s perspective.

The book is a reminder that no boundaries and hatred can separate two kids from Germany and Poland.

It’s a light read for most of the part, and turns dark at the end. It felt like it intersected with my favourite film, Life is Beautiful.

The Stranger – Albert Camus

Date Read: 8-Oct-2024

Recommendation: 5/5

I had never read and experienced a crime with poetic language and perspective

This book is for those who want to disagree with society’s conventional method. It’s for those who don’t want to join stereotypes.

The book’s first half seems like ordinary events, but it turns into a murder trial and ends with many questions on existentialism.

The Metamorphosis – Franz Kafka

Date Read: 8-Oct-2024

Recommendation: 5/5

It’s the most disturbing book I’ve ever read.

I read it twice. Kafka’s words are like a sharp needle that slowly and sometimes intensely punctures your heart.

The Metamorphosis is a mirror that makes you realise the truth in life and, above all, about your identity in society and your home. It’s an eye-opening book.

The Doings of Dookie – The Story of an Indian Boy – Jean Hughes

Date Read: 8-Oct-2024

Recommendation: 5/5

This book is a rare hidden gem. No review or even book cover is available on the Internet, so I took the best photo of the book. I claim that I will be writing the first official review of this classic book.

This book is preserved in the National Library of Australia catalogue for those in Australia.
