Doughnut and churro helped me to reinvent creative learning methodology for CISSP As An Art.
My traditional approach for learning CISSP or a new skill was like a monolith. I refer to the material, understand the concept and move on.
The pattern was: Know. Understand. Repeat.
I learned that learning wasn’t effective with just one context.
I call that single context a doughnut.
Many times, a doughnut fell, and I starved.
That means, sticking to a concept with only one perspective is hard.
Authentic learning that sticks forever needs multiple contexts.
Churros, a Spanish doughnut was my variation to learn with more than one angle.
Learn and understand the same concept with a different lens.
My authentic lens is creativity, art and visual storytelling.
Circular learning approach revolves around the concept with different perspectives. It’s like orbiting a planet with different angles and distances.
Learn risk management concepts to understand risk. Then, understand the context of governance, business continuity, and security operations from a similar perspective.
Thinking in circles (doughnut) is not enough. You also need to stretch your layers like Churros.
Sequential learning is like a journey.
You move from A -> B -> C.
It’s helpful to understand process-oriented concepts such as incident response, software development life cycle or forensic investigation.
The learning is effective when you add layers.
You need both approaches for effective learning.
Circular = Contextual reinforcement.
Sequential = Operational readiness.
Together, they build both clarity and confidence.
💡CISSP Example
Information that sits idle is data at rest, but I see lazy data sitting on a couch. Security, like encryption, is vital for such a lazy fellow.
Information transmitted over a wire is data in transmission. It’s like a person who loves travelling with lots of money, so TLS is essential for protection.
I am on a quest to build and create all the CISSP concepts with my creative approach and methodology.
